Posted on : Tuesday, 13th January 2015

On January 10, 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya met with the visiting Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the State House in Nairobi.

Kenyatta said Chinese Foreign Minister’s first visit to Kenya at the beginning of the new year fully signifies the all-around friendly and cooperative relations between Kenya and China. Both Kenya and China are committed to promoting equality, fairness and development, and determined to defend national sovereignty. The two countries learning from each other and strengthening cooperation is not only in line with their own interests, but also conducive to safeguarding the overall interests of developing countries. Kenya is focusing on economic development and regards China as a strong cooperative partner. It is willing to further consolidate and strengthen the bilateral partnership. Kenya is grateful to China for its long-term support and assistance, and hopes to continue to receive strong support from China in the fields of connectivity and other infrastructure construction, energy, electric power and so on. Mutual support and cooperation should be further enhanced in international affairs such as African peace and security and the United Nations.

Wang Yi said the main purpose of my visit is to promote the comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring equality, mutual trust, and mutual benefit with win-win results confirmed by President Xi Jinping and Your Excellency, to implement the consensus on deepening bilateral cooperation reached during Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Kenya and to discuss how to expand and explore new areas of cooperation under the new situation in accordance with the development needs of both sides.

Wang Yi said China and Kenya are good friends, good partners and good brothers, and always understand and support each other. When President Xi Jinping visited Africa in 2013, he put forward the working principle with Africa and correct viewpoint on justice and interests, i.e., “sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith”, which reflects the essential features of the diplomacy towards Africa with Chinese characteristics. We stand ready to uphold justice in politics for Africa and to develop and achieve revitalization together with Africa in economy. Kenya is rich in human and natural resources and is in the take-off stage of the acceleration of industrialization. China has entered a new period of transfer of production capacity and has a unique advantage in terms of equipment, technology and personnel. More importantly, China has always been upholding the strong political will to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with Africa. Both countries should accelerate the synergy of their respective development strategies at the historic point. China is ready to work with Kenya to further expand exchanges and cooperation in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure, industrial transfer and technological transfer, renewable energy, eco-environmental protection, people-to-people and cultural engagement, peace and security and so on. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, China stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Kenya on major international and regional issues including the post-2015 development agenda so as to jointly promote world peace and development.
